More Than A Meal

Together, we can nourish a community.

In the summer of 2024, neighbours and teachers in Regina’s Heritage community came together with a dream: to uplift and empower their community by ensuring every child at Thomson Community School could start the day with a warm, nourishing meal and a true sense of belonging. From that dream, the Thomson Food Collective was born.
In the 2024-2025 school year, we fed an average of 60 students per day!

Starting each day with good food and greater possibilities.

Every school morning, volunteers prepare and serve hot, vegan and halal breakfasts at Thomson School. From Riel 'Cakes, to Kokum's Bannock, to Malala Scrambles,  these meals fill young bellies and spark curiosity for not just new foods and flavours, but for social justice.

When donations allow, students also bring home meal kits filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, and hearty homemade soups and stews. These kits ease the stress of food insecurity for families, putting dignity and nourishment at the center of community care.

For many students, this breakfast is more than a meal—it’s a foundation for wellbeing, learning, equity, and growth.

Fostering Sustainable Food Partnerships

Food insecurity is a serious and growing issue in Saskatchewan impacting children most of all. As of 2023, approximately 35.3% of children in Saskatchewan live in food-insecure households, which is notably higher than the national average of 32.9% . This statistic reflects a significant concern, as food insecurity is linked to various adverse outcomes, including poor health, developmental delays, and challenges in academic performance. That’s why the Thomson Food Collective is seeking regular donations to sustain and expand the breakfast program and meal kits for the 2025–2026 school year.

We are always accepting:

Fresh fruits and vegetables
Lentils, beans, vegan stocks and broths
Tofu, soy products, and oat milk
Flour, oils, and spices
